As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.

There’s something about the water in summer in New Jersey that just feels like magic – and everyone in the state agrees! We’ve all been there – our perfect waterfront escape in NJ suddenly feels like it’s the state’s biggest party, and while that’s great, it’s definitely not the vibe we’re looking for. That’s why I love to find hidden gem spots on the Jersey Shore, and I found one in the tiny town of Fortescue, This isolated town in the south of the state, surrounded by nature, is home to an amazing historic hotel and restaurant on the banks of Fortescue Beach. That means you can enjoy a stunning meal only feet from the water, while enjoying an incredible view. The best part is, the Charlesworth Hotel and Restaurant is such a well-hidden gem that even during summer, it’s likely to still feel like a peaceful retreat from the big city and crowded beaches not far from here.

Keep an eye out for this sign in quiet Fortescue on the Delaware Bay – it’s your ticket to a unique escape.

Located in a small, historic inn, the Charlesworth Restaurant is the signature restaurant in this region.

Located only feet away from the water, it’s a popular spot when you’re trying to beat the heat.

But don’t expect to walk right in – the restaurant is reservations-only, and after a taste of the food, we can see why.

This is an upscale, fine-dining experience perfect for those who love traditional steak-and-seafood dining with prime ingredients.

But there have been some modern twists added – including beautifully composed dishes like this poke tower appetizer.

The menu changes seasonally, as well – take advantage of the bounty of the season with this stunning blueberry lemon cake with creme anglaise.

No matter what you order, a sunset meal here offers one of the most beautiful views in New Jersey.
