Why Hoboken was everything I expected, from pizza and scenic views to easy access to NYC.
Sometimes, the best trips are the ones that offer just what you expect—and a little bit more. That’s how I felt about my trip to Hoboken, New Jersey, a place I’d only be familiar with thanks to Cake Boss and obviously the birthplace of one of my family’s favorite singers – Frank Sinatra. This charming city, located just across the Hudson River from Manhattan, has always piqued my interest in visiting. After finally making the trip, I can confidently say it lived up to all of my expectations. From delicious food to scenic skyline views, Hoboken delivered everything I hoped for. Here’s why it was every bit worth it.
A Slice of Heaven at Tony Baloney’s
When it comes to pizza, New Jersey and New York are top-tier, and Tony Baloney’s stands out as one of the most iconic spots in town. Known for its inventive pies and laid-back vibe, it was the first stop on my list. The moment I walked in, I knew I was in for something special despite its small size. The menu features unique combinations ranging from classic New Jersey-style to more adventurous offerings like the “Tony’s Roni,” a pizza with layers of pepperoni and hot honey that perfectly balances sweet and spicy. I also couldn’t resist trying a General Tso’s slice, which, let me tell you – was an experience of flavor I never expected to find in a pizza! Every bite of the pizza was crispy, cheesy, and bursting with flavor, and it’s no wonder locals and visitors alike swear by this place.
Relaxing by the Water at Sinatra Park
After a satisfying meal, I made my way to Frank Sinatra Park for a relaxing afternoon by the water. This waterfront gem offers stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, making it the perfect spot for a peaceful picnic. The park is beautifully landscaped, with plenty of green space for lounging or taking a stroll along the waterfront promenade.
I packed a small picnic—some fresh fruit, snacks, and a cold drink—and found a perfect spot on the grass to sit and take in the view. Watching the boats go by and joggers run the boardwalk felt like the perfect way to unwind. The park’s location couldn’t be more ideal as it provides an unbeatable view of Hoboken and New York City.
Taking the PATH Into the City
One of the best things about Hoboken is its proximity to New York City. After enjoying the park, I decided to take the PATH train into Manhattan for a quick jaunt into the heart of the city. The PATH station in Hoboken is just a short walk from the waterfront and provides easy access to Lower Manhattan. The ride was quick, and before I knew it, I was stepping out into the streets of New York.
It’s a seamless experience, and being so close to the city allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds—Hoboken’s relaxed charm and the electric energy of Manhattan. This is a true perk of the area.
My trip to Hoboken was everything I thought it would be—charming, delicious, and filled with unforgettable experiences. From savoring pizza at Tony Baloney’s to soaking up the peaceful views at Sinatra Park, Hoboken offered exactly what I was looking for. And the ability to easily jump into the excitement of New York City made it the perfect home base for my adventures. I will absolutely be back again for another round of food and fun!
