Looking to go sledding in New Jersey this winter? Blueberry Hill in South Jersey is a great hidden gem filled with breathtaking slopes.
When the snow starts falling, some people prefer to hunker down and relax. But for kids and kids at heart, it's time to get outside and have fun. Unless we grew up in Florida, we all have fond childhood memories of snow days - snowball fights, building snowmen, and for the bold and fearless, climbing to the top of the biggest hill around and sledding down.
New Jersey has plenty of ski resorts in the mountains, of course, but you don't have to go that far to find great airtime. There are numerous amazing spots for sledding in New Jersey, and one of my favorites is Blueberry Hill. This charming natural area near Gibbsboro is full of excellent hills, and it's easily accessed by the Blueberry Hill Loop Trail. It's a quick hiking adventure, the perfect kickoff to a day of sledding, so put on that snowsuit and go have some fun.
We've all got that neighborhood sledding hill we remember fondly, and for those in South Jersey, the one they're most likely to have nostalgic memories of is a doozy. You only need to head five minutes from Voorhees by car to find it.
Blueberry Hill has a small trail system near Voorhees and Cherry Hill, but it feels a world away. You can explore it via an easy 1.8-mile loop trail that's accessible for all guests up for a hike. Dogs are welcome as long as they're on a leash, and it's a popular spot for birdwatching.
The Blueberry Hill Loop Trail has a slight 91-foot elevation gain, making it easy to navigate even for rookie hikers. You'll find a well-maintained trail and a few stairs, but the climb is worth it, especially for the view of the Philadelphia skyline. While the trail is considered accessible, those with wheelchairs or strollers may be able to go up a graded hill to bypass the stairs.
Blueberry Hill is full of sledding hills, including one nicknamed "The Big Hill" that offers some of the best airtime in the region. Taking a spin on Blueberry Hill is a rite of passage for kids in the area but it's never too late to discover those thrills for yourself.
Have you gone sledding at Blueberry Hill? If not, tell a friend about this winter adventure, or find your own favorite spot for sledding in New Jersey. See more photos of the nearby trail at the AllTrails trail listing, and while you're in the area, explore the shopping and dining haven of Haddonfield, one of South Jersey's best small towns. If you're spending the night in the area, SpringHill Suites by Marriott Voorhees Mt. Laurel/Cherry Hill is a great affordable spot for families.
