Fall is a perfect time to visit the Great Falls in New Jersey for stunning foliage and scenic views.

Fall is my favorite time of year, and fall in New Jersey does not disappoint! I live for that first cold snap when the air is crisp and I can sip apple cider and wear all of my favorite fall accessories. We can't wait for the striking shades of red and gold on the trees, especially around our very own most impressive landmark - The Great Falls in New Jersey. Beautiful all year, fall is a great time for families and photographers alike to take a scenic day trip to this magnificent waterfall for one of the best views in the Garden State.

Getting your timing right is always the most challenging part of leaf peeping. Mother Nature is anything but predictable, so there's no set schedule for when the leaves will change in New Jersey. Typically, they start to change color around the middle of October, but the way the weather has been this year... who knows!

That being said, I think a visit between mid-October and early November would be ideal. Even if you don't catch the peak color chance, seeing a majority of the landscape draped in beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow is certainly going to put you into the fall spirit.

Enjoy vibrant colors and one of the largest waterfalls by volume on the East Coast!

Paterson Great Falls National Historic Park also offers a welcome center, tours, and a nearby museum, as well as a massive amphitheater in the nearby Overlook Park. This is a great place to catch outdoor shows, so keep an eye on the area for special programming in the fall.

Fall in New Jersey can be a rainy season, so keep an eye on the weather when you go. However, rain can have a side effect - more powerful rushing waters on the falls, which makes for an incredible view if you're in the area.

An urban oasis with wheelchair and stroller-accessible paths, this is a popular spot for artists, photographers, and families. There are also picnic tables available if you'd like to pack a lunch and enjoy a meal surrounded by those beautiful fall colors.

You can find out all about the many landmarks and attractions at this park with a visit to the website of the National Park Service, which runs the popular National Historical Park.
